I am a staunch social and fiscal conservative who believes in limited government, the U.S. Constitution, and traditional moral values. Below you will find some key issues and where I stand on each of them.

Social Issues

Sanctity of Life--I believe that all human life is a gift from God, and, therefore, is sacred. I believe life begins at conception and will always vote “yes” on pro-life legislation. I oppose physician-assisted suicide. Concerning stem cell research, I only support research using adult stem cells and stem cells from human umbilical cord-blood.

Traditional Marriage - I support marriage as only between one man and one woman. Marriage existed long before government and should not be defined by government. Marriage is the foundation of the family and human society and thus should be protected. Marriage is the best environment in which to nurture children to help them grow into healthy, well-adjusted adults who will be responsible citizens.

Strong Families - I support legislation that will protect and uphold parental authority over their children, and that will enable families to stay together and adequately provide for their needs.

Crime - I support our law enforcement officers and firemen. The services they provide are crucial and legitimate functions of government necessary for the safety and protection of our lives and property. I support stiff laws that are tough on lawbreakers. I support the death penalty for capital offenses. Penalties for child abusers and molesters should be severe and strictly enforced. I oppose hate crime laws because they create special classes of victims. All crimes are injurious and harmful to the victims and should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.

Gun Rights - As a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), I support the Second Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms, as a fundamental right of all law-abiding citizens.

Veterans Issues

I strongly support our veterans. The men and women who have placed their lives in harm’s way to protect our freedoms and way of life, many at great personal sacrifice, should be honored and respected; therefore, I favor legislation that supports and encourages our veterans.

Education Issues

Common Education—As a former teacher, I support education because it results in an informed society and produces a quality workforce. However, our educational system needs to be reformed because it is failing to adequately education our children. Money is not the answer to improving our education system. I support legislation that will allow our teachers to focus more on teaching the basics, especially reading. Administrators and teachers should be empowered to lawfully maintain discipline and order in the classroom. I support more parental choice for parents to choose where their children attend school; therefore, I support school choice legislation. Parent’s tax dollars should be used as the parents deem best for their children whether it be vouchers or tax credits. I support merit pay for teachers as long as it involves various methods of evaluation and not just student performance. Since education is a primary transmitter of patriotism and morals, I support the public display of the Ten Commandments as a means of universal moral guidance, the displaying of the American flag and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and voluntary prayer in our schools.

Higher Education—I support laws that will ensure that our colleges and universities teach an appreciation for our American way of life. I support legislation that will keep the costs of tuition and textbooks at an affordable rate for our citizens. I oppose obligating the taxpayers’ money to fund endowed chairs just because huge sums of money are given by millionaires to their favorite university.

Economic Issues

Taxes—I believe taxes are too high. Government should use as little as possible of our hard earned money allowing us to keep as much as possible to spend as we see fit. I support eliminating the state sales tax on groceries. I support reducing our state income tax rate. I support legislation to reduce and/or freeze property taxes, especially for senior citizens who live on a fixed income. I support a consumption tax rather than a tax on production. I am opposed to our tax dollars funding government entitlement programs for those who could and should be working.

Health Care—I support a market approach to health care and some degree of deregulation of the health insurance industry. All the paper work that doctor’s are required to complete for the government result in increased cost for the consumer. Lawsuit reform that limits frivolous malpractice claims is needed. Individuals need to take more responsibility for their health by seeking to live more healthy lifestyles with an emphasis on disease prevention.

Business: I support the free market system and believe it works best when there is limited government interference. I support lawsuit reform and worker’s compensation reform because these will help create a favorable business climate and attract new businesses into Oklahoma. I oppose giving large corporations huge tax breaks, especially when small businesses are not given the same advantages. I support legislation that will enable the small business owner to start a business, compete and make a profit if there is a market for his product or service.

Roads and Bridges—I support legislation that will keep our infrastructure well maintained and continually improving in order to meet the needs of the next generation.

Illegal Immigration—I support legislation that will curtail illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants take jobs away from our citizens and drive wages down. I support English as the official language of our state
